Did you know you can choose your Physical Therapist?
In Arizona, you can seek the help of a Physical Therapist, even if you are not referred by a physician.
When choosing a therapist, you should ask the following questions:
- Is the therapist skilled in manual (hands-on) techniques?
- How much one-on-one time will I spend with the therapist?
- How much time will I spend with unlicensed personnel (Aide or Technician)
- Is the therapist a participating provider with my health plan?
- Is the facility equipped to effectively treat my condition?
What should you expect from your Physical Therapist?
For me, Physical Therapy at Backway’s PT has been effective in treating many complaints where other therapies have failed.

A good Physical Therapist is someone who attends to you as a knowing, complicated, and whole person; someone who works to understand your uniqueness and attempts to discover your innate capacity for healing.
You should expect your therapist to listen to what you have to say, educate and empower you in achieving your goals, and guide you along your individual path to improved health and vitality.
Backway’s PT remains open to serve our clients, and we are following the CDC guidelines for Outpatient Health Care Clinics, which are linked to the area "Transmission Rates" for COVID:
- The Transmission Rate of COVID is different than the "Community Levels". Community Levels are a metric that combines numbers of cases and number of hospital beds available to treat COVID patients. Because of that, it is possible for the Transmission Rate to be HIGH even if the Community Level is low.
- As a Health Care facility, we follow the Transmission Levels, and the masking requirements are tied to this level.
- We encourage all of our "at risk" clients to wear a mask when in our clinic, because it is in your best interest to mask when indoors.
- We ask that any clients who have traveled within the last week, isolate from us for 3-5 days after travel before restarting their PT treatments.
- If a client is fully up to date on ALL vaccines and booster shots, then they may come to PT earlier, but MUST wear an N95 or KN95 mask that fits well.
- These are the following mask requirements according to Transmission Levels (this is true at all times) :
- HIGH Transmission = all clients and PT's must mask in common areas of our clinic (waiting room, hallways, bathrooms, PT gym or movement room).
- Masking in the private PT rooms is governed by whoever's needs are higher, the client or the PT.
- Examples: if the client feels masks are needed, then both client and PT will mask. If the PT feels masks are needed, then both client and PT will mask. If neither PT nor client feel masking is needed, then masks do not need to be worn in the private PT treatment room, but the UV air filter must be running to filter the air in the room.
- If the Transmission AND Community Levels are both HIGH, then everyone in the clinic is required to mask all the time.
- SUBSTANTIAL Transmission = Masks are strongly recommended in all common areas but are not required. Masks in private treatment rooms continue to be used as noted above (whoever has the greater need for masking gets to decide if masks are used in the private rooms, and the UV air filtration unit will be turned on).
- MODERATE Transmission = Masks are recommended in all common areas but are not required. Mask use in Private Rooms remain the same as noted above.
- LOW Transmission = Masks are not needed in common areas. Mask use in Private Rooms remains the same as noted above.
- If the Transmission Level is Moderate or Low, and a client is not comfortable being in the waiting room if others are not masked, they can wait in their cars, and the PT or office staff will get them when the PT is ready to start the treatment.
- Our office staff members are following the same guidelines as noted above.
- All items that are touched by a client in the gym or a treatment are wiped down at the end of the treatment. UV HEPA Air Filtration units are used in all the treatment rooms.
