Backway’s PT Clinic:
I am a 5½ year stroke survivor, and of all the therapy clinics I have known, I can say without reservation that Backway’s Therapy is by far the most effective. The Backway’s staff show both understanding and knowledge, and present a challenge for you to be the best you can be.
My strength, agility, coordination and, most importantly, my confidence have greatly improved.
If you are looking for such an environment, I strongly recommend Backway’s Therapy.
I have utilized (Backway’s PT) services with excellent clinical and functional results; and my patients have been very satisfied with the care they have received. I believe that the therapists are cost-conscious, not overly utilizing high cost modalities while obtaining good outcomes.
The clinic follows Medicare Guidelines for reporting and documentation, and they give me good feedback through notes and, if necessary, phone calls.
Thanks, Ruth and staff, for the care you’ve given my patients over the years.
Mrs. Backway and her associates provide a unique approach to health care which is compatible and follows the philosophy that our facility prescribes to. Many of our very chronic and difficult cases have been referred to Mrs. Backway with excellent results far beyond what we had been able to obtain at our clinic. With the assistance of Mrs. Backway and our chiropractic care, we have taken some of the most difficult cases and returned these people back to a normal lifestyle.
I highly recommend Mrs. Backway and her associates, especially for those patients of a chronic nature and those requiring neuromuscular reeducation.
For Andrea:
As a physical therapist, Andrea's skill sets are superb. Whether you are post injury or post surgery, Andrea is adept at zeroing in on problem areas and working to remedy them. I highly recommend Andrea if you are looking for a good therapist.
For Ellen:
Ellen was a Godsend for me. I was suffering from chronic lower back pain, and she would use her magic fingers to find my painful areas and work those areas by loosening the fascia to make it better, right away!
She also discovered one of my legs is significantly shorter than the other, which I had no idea, and this was causing my back pain.
With her help, the issue is now fixed with a simple shoe lift just for me. Now I can live my life essentially pain free, thank you Ellen!
Thank you, thank you for all your TLC and wonderful guidance to get me back in shape and aligned so that I may once again enjoy life.
I so appreciate all of your directions and help to get me to a place where I can exercise again.
Hugs and Thank You
Esther & our business:
I went to see Esther for a knee injury, and was so pleased to find a caring and excellent therapist who really 'gets it!' The body takes time and hands on care to heal. The manual therapy provided is far superior to other forms of PT I've had in the past.
Esther looked at the whole body - not just a part!
Even with my disability, I made great progress with Esther's expert care.
I have exercises to do at home that are easily incorporated into my daily routines.
I'm very grateful for this healing experience!
A well respected local acupuncturist recommended that I see Esther Greenwald if I ever needed physical therapy. She called her “a great healer”.
In the last six years I was a caregiver to my husband, who passed away last year. In my care giving duties, I had noticed that I was experiencing neck pain to a higher degree as time went by.
I finally decided to see Esther December of 2021. I am most grateful that I did.
Esther brought great care and compassion to my therapy sessions and I can truly say that she is a great healer. She is a tremendous listener who transforms your novice description of what is ailing you into a professional evaluation, assessment and treatment plan for your limitations in functional mobility.
She helped me recover quickly and safely, and it can save you money due to decreased overall healthcare costs. I was given a plan of neck exercises specifically designed for me and it is helping me stay healthy and, overall, to have an awareness of my body and its limitations and abilities.
We worked as a team to achieve my wellness.
The importance of transparent communication cannot be emphasized enough. Esther helps you thoroughly understand your condition, and, as a patient, you will be more cooperative and empowered when it comes to executing your treatment plan. She is simply the best and I am so grateful that our paths crossed.
After the first PT treatment with Esther Greenwald, I felt some improvement. She diagnosed my problem as a lower back issue with pain radiating into the hip and leg, which affected the Sciatic Nerve. After four treatments, I am very encouraged that, by following Esther's advice, I will be able to heal and stay well.
I am taking an occasional Tylenol Arthritis and daily Biofreeze patches, but I am able to complete the exercises that I have been shown, do an abbreviated walk in the morning, and participate, with care, in most of the activities that I need to or want to do. My pain level has reduced from intermittent 9/10 and usual 5/10, to occasional 5/10 with usual 2/10. I have not needed the Lyrica.
Thank you so much for referring me to Esther. I am sure that you do not need me to tell you how qualified, knowledgeable, and perceptive she is, or that she is an excellent teacher. But I did want you to know that your referral was life changing for me.
Cannot say how my shoulder became 'frozen', but Esther was recommended and what a wonderful experience of healing.
Fully personalized treatment to my precise condition with an expertise and holistic knowledge base that instills confidence and works.
It took time, and exercises on my part, but - regrettably - I no longer require her services! [I will miss Esther].
My function is back to normal now.
Much gratitude.
I'm a new patient seeing Esther Greenwald for neck and lumbar pain. This is how she rolls:
Detailed discussion about my overall health and lifestyle including surgeries, medications, injuries and accidents.
She performed a complete body assessment before beginning treatment. She is detail oriented and passionate about her work. She wants results!
She teaches proper body movements and motions.
She provides and teaches exercises that strengthen the affected weakened areas.
I'm thrilled with my results in a relatively short period of time. Better range of motion and flexibility in the affected areas. Almost pain free.
Thank you Esther!
She takes her work extremely seriously - is intensely focused on her patient. It is complete session working on me, herself, and at the end I am always finding my body is less stressed, moves better, is softer and looser. I believe totally that she will be able to help me where no-one else, over many years, has been able to do.
I use Esther Greenwald, but be assured that most PTs are not body workers; they are exercise pushers. Esther's approach is one of myofascial release, using sustained pressure to stretch and lengthen the fascia. She has worked wonders on me by evaluating my entire body to determine where the actual issue is that has not allowed me to use conventional PT to get better.

I recently saw Esther for treatment of chronic pain in both knees. On my initial evaluation, Esther was able to determine that the pain in my knees was caused by misalignment of pelvis and hips and muscle weakness.
On this visit she initiated treatment to improve hip and knee alignment.
As a result of Esther's therapy program I have noticed great improvement in my ability to stand, increased walking distance, and ease in getting up from sit to stand. I'm continuing to follow her home exercise program.
I'm very grateful that I was referred to Esther because she is skilled manual therapist and wants her patients to improve!
Thank You Esther!
It has taken me over two years to finally find a "hopeful" solution to a constant limp.
I had concluded that my only relief would be eventually a wheelchair, until I met Esther.
Her expert training and unique techniques, compared to most PT, is the most professional assesment of the problem with direct "hands on" manipulation.
The difference of how I hobbled in for treatment and how I freely walked out,was truely a miracle. The miracle was Esther and expertise body work.
It wasn't temporary.
I know walk correctly. I now can play golf again.
I now can park wherever, not worrying about how many steps it will take with pain. She is the answer. She is the best!
Thank you Esther
I recently saw Esther Greenwald for therapy on my neck. I have degenerative disc issues as well as a moderate-to-severe bulging disc at C-5/6.
I was very pleased with the results after a course of therapy with her.
Esther is very deliberative and methodical in her approach. Because she is so skilled and in demand, be advised that she may not be immediately available, but if you can stand a delay, she is well worth the wait.
Almost a year ago after a diagnosis of lower back stenosis and several months of severe sciatica (complicated by bone on bone knee issues). my primary referred me to Esther who carefully and gently assessed my condition and proceeded to make weekly improvements in my mobility and pain reduction. She rightfully observed that PT could not fix my knees, but still included some treatment that provided relief.
Her total body, total person approach is always evident, and she worked on the long term approach to the problems that brought me to her in the first place. When I finally have one of my knees fixed, I hope she will be available, since she is my PT of choice.
As to the sciatica, she gave me the tools for self-care which have prevented any recurrence of the severe conditions. High marks for Esther.
Esther has been the PT I have been looking for! I have tried others before her and lost hope that any PT professional would listen to and believe me, let alone “fix” me.
Others provided me with more pain, belittled me and even gave me the wrong exercises for my pain.
Due to her highly skilled and thorough assessment, years of experience, quality care, concern and healing hands, I am better!
I move without pain and almost no stiffness.
It’s as I’ve always dreamed of, and have Esther to thank <3<3<3
I injured my shoulder and had rotator cuff surgery. Couldn't move my arm and had constant pain no matter what I did.
I now have full use of my arm and my shoulder feels great.
I want to thank Esther Greenwald for her special skills and all those wonderful exercises (that I will continue doing). Thank you Esther!
Esther discharged me today from therapy. I have no nerve pain in my back, shoulder, arm or neck. The treatments she gave and the exercises and sleep suggestions seemed to work perfectly. Esther is a gem.
I had never noticed my posture becoming slumped, shoulders rounded, and the "dreaded" hump at the base of my neck. Then one day I noticed my reflection while walking past a store-front window. I swiveled my head to see if anyone was walking behind me, because that reflection had to be a much older woman. But no, it was me.
I immediately made an appointment with Esther Greenwald. My very first visit was transformational. I felt great, but I did not expect much posture change in one hour. When leaving, Esther asked how I felt. "Well,"I said, "I feel taller and I feel good."
"You look straighter," Esther said. Really? I thought, In one visit? Hmmm. But as I walked to my car I could physically feel my back straighter, allowing my shoulders to fall in line, and my head felt on top of my shoulders, not arriving to my car before my body. The heaviness of my body was gone.
In my following visits I was aware of her every move and adjustment and how I felt, right then. It seemed as if she were reshaping my body as she pushed this and pulled that as if she was resculpting my frame.
Truly, that's how it felt!
I can't say enough about Esther's work. And I didn't get sent home ith a bound book of exercises, but rather sensible core exercises, some of which I can do wherever I am.
It was truly a remarkable experience. I am 72 and very grateful to be tanding up straight and with no pain.
Esther Greenwald has made a complete difference in my life. Prior to seeing Esther, I went to another physical therapy office. It didn't do any good, and I left after not completing the remainder of my treatments.
I had an MRI, showing some severe stenosis in my lumbar spine, with radiating pain in my legs and hips. With Esther's hands on approach instead of hot/cold and exercise machines, I knew I was in the hands of a healer.
She also cared enough and spent enough time to talk with my PCP re: something she and I had spoke of and how it may be contributing to my quality of life and recovery.
I will be forever grateful. My pain has reduced from times at 6 out of 10 to now perhaps a 0.5 out of 10. If I put into practice the recommendations for posture and body mechanics, I know I will continue to be more active and pain free.
Thank you, Esther.
Dear Dr. M
Thank you for referring me to Esther Greenwald. She is, without a doubt, the best physical therapist I have ever been involved with. Her approach, ability to evaluate, actual treatment and patient commitment is outstanding. I couldn't be happier with the results of my physical therapy treatments.
Thanks again for the referral
For over a year I have had a terrible headache. Esther asked the right questions and we realized I had many car accidents and, due to chronic neck pain, I had headaches.
After constantly working on my neck the headaches are gone. What a relief.
Yes, I do have neck pain at times but it's doable since the pain in my head is relieved.
What a great Therapist.
I have had neck problems for over thirty years. I now have Parkinson's which adds to my problems.
I am very lucky to have found Esther Greenwald. My neck has improved greatly while under her care. She is a true medical intuitive. Esther excels in her knowledge and experience.
Thank you, Esther, for all your wonderful assistance.
I recently went to my Doctor for lower back pain, and he suggested I see Esther Greenwald with Backway's Physical Therapy, as many of his clients have had great success under Esther's care.
Years ago, I went for physical therapy at a different establishment and felt that it was a waste of my time and money, but, on my first visit, Esther established that one leg was 3/4" shorter than the other leg. This was because of an accident, and it was causing pain in my pelvis and lower back muscles.
She put me on a personalized stretching program and started me on using a 3/4" lift in my shoe.
The relief was almost immediate and after just 10 visits, I was released from Esther's care. I'm grateful.
Thanks Esther
Esther Greenwald is amazing!
She has tailored therapy for a near frozen shoulder and accommodated my fibromyalia and chronic fatigue.
The results are nothing short of amazing.
The quiet environment, her personalized approach and adapting the therapy pace to me are greatly appreciated.
WOW. This is the way PT should be! Forget those noisy machines and "formula" PT.
My range of motion is returned and my shoulder continues to heal and improve with the home exercises!
HIGH stars!!!! Thank you!
There is a miracle here in Prescott and her name is Esther Greenwald, PT!
I came to Esther with terrible low back pain from my severe scoliosis. I have been going to PT for a large portion of my life. However no one has ever diagnosed my problem and given me such relief! After only one session with Esther and her amazing skills my pain was 75% better.
I have gotten my life back, my feeling of joy, and found a therapist I can truly trust.
Thank you Esther!!
I was diagnosed with severe arthritis in my neck and 4 degenerating cervical discs. After steroid shots and other therapies, my doctor suggested ablation, or burning the nerve ends to end my severe neck pain and headaches.
After just a few treatments with Esther Greenwald (which included fixing my slipped pelvis), my headaches and deep pain went away. After 15 treatments on my neck, shoulders and head, I am without pain, have full rotation of my neck and do not need ablation.
Thanks, Esther.
My experience with physical therapy at Backways Physical Therapy with Esther Greenwald has been life-changing for me.
A life time of chronic injuries had progressively become an impediment to being able to function normally due to constant pain and weakness. I was becoming more and more concerned about being independent and self-reliant. My goal for the physical therapy was to achieve and maintain the optimal correction of my physical limitations so that I could retain my lifestyle in reasonable comfort and safety.
Esther's knowledge, experience, and personal attention to my concerns resulted in a therapy program that produced significant results in my overall physical, emotional and mental well-being. As a result of her expert care, my ability to perform my normal activities has greatly improved. I have a renewed sense of confidence and safety in my ability to remain independent and self-reliant.
I am so very grateful and appreciative for the personal, compassionate, and expert care that I received from Esther. I am absolutely convinced that the physical therapy I received has literally changed the course of my overall future health and has restored the quality of life that I enjoy.
Thank You!
Thank You Backway's Physical Therapy, and Thank You Esther Greenwald. Your organization has such talented and gifted healers!
Esther accurately diagnosed and treated the source of my pain (pelvis), rather than focusing on the mere symptoms of my pain (back and leg) like the other PTs in town have done.
Esther, you have my eternal gratitude! You have given me relief, joy, and hope of living a normal, active post-injury lifestyle!
I will definitely refer folks seeking physical therapy to Backways PT knowing that they will receive personalized, professional care from the best physical therapists in our community!
Justin & our business:
I had been a faithful Chiropractic patient for approximately 7 years. After my first visit with Justin, my headaches, back and rib problems were no longer a problem. I needed to see Justin for approximately 4 visits and this change became permanent. Justin helped my body to fix itself and he taught me how to facilitate my body to fix itself. I no longer have to visit Justin or a chiropractor.
Later I developed plantar fasciitis. After an appointment with an MD and being told my foot pain was because I had minor arthritis in my back, I decided to see Justin again. I had been having major difficulty walking. But once again within one visit he had the problem located, and mended with a couple of visits and home exercise.
I continue to recommend him and this practice to all my friends. To me he is an answer to my prayers. And I applaud his diligence to his talents and to his patients.
I feel so grateful and appreciative for being with Justin after hip replacement. As someone who wants to know the ways and hows, he was a wonderful fit- always showing & explaining his research and how he was working with my "individual" needs. That was the best.
He is very Knowledgeable and excellent at what he does. Many thanks for the Backway's Holistic approach, and to Justin.
I was referred to Justin, specifically, from a self-described "very picky person" who said that "she had done a lot of research on the Physical Therapists in town."
I took advantage of her research and recommendation, especially since I was just looking for a referral to a good orthopedic surgeon to clean out the garbage that had built up in my right shoulder. This shoulder had given me pain for most of my adult life, but I was able to break through it somehow and it was pain-free for about 10 years. That was, until about a year ago, when the pain started creeping back in and I couldn't make it go away.
In my short time working with Justin, the pain in my shoulder has reduced to the point where I hardly think about it. More importantly, I have regained flexibility in my neck and back to levels I cannot ever remember having.
I am excited to be able to add my own recommendation to the one which I received from my friend.
I am so excited about my physical therapy experience at Backway’s!
Physical therapy was recommended to me by my doctor in Flagstaff. Since he is not familiar with Prescott physical therapy facilities I was on my own to find a good fit. After I read Backway’s staff biographies and several testimonials I decided to call.
I started seeing Justin McKinney last October for knee and hip issues. Justin is so conscientious, thorough and knowledgeable! He patiently explains procedures and methods and constantly strove to address my injuries and postural habits. I really appreciate his holistic approach and his attention to every detail. It is so evident how much he loves his work and how hard he works to stay current and informed. In addition, Justin’s positive approach and enthusiasm left me leaving each session with a great attitude about myself and my ability to continue to be active. I am 67, but I feel much younger!
Thank you Backway’s – and especially Justin McKinney!
I am a 67 year old woman and before coming to Backway's I had experienced many different therapeutic techniques for pain caused by numerous injuries from training young horses when I was a teenager. I suffered from knee, hip, back and shoulder pain.
Before seeing Justin McKinney, I was unable to do many of my daily activities due to pain.
Justin is very skilled in many treatment modalities, some of which were completely new to me. Long term gait retraining was needed to correct bad posture and movement habits I had acquired.
He did a good job of personalizing and graduating the exercises so that improvements were made without creating more problems.
I continue to exercise and to improve using the exercises he gave me. I am very glad to have had him for my therapist.
Thank you so much for your help from Backway's.
I underwent a spinal fusion nearly a year ago after a few years of discomfort and since that time have made the rounds of physical therapy (practices).
None gave me the quality of help and support and most of all, freedom to move about and sit without pain - to the measure that Backway's did.
Justin, my physical therapist, addressed one by one every issue I brought to my appointments. Sometimes between sessions I would forget the exact way to proceed on a particular exercise. Patiently he would explain and demonstrate to the level I needed, until finally we had covered every single problem area.
Not only a consummate professional, Justin also offered flexibility, expertise, and an extensive background in anatomy and physiology.
I write this note with such gratitude. If ever I need physical therapy in the future, no question as to my choice of where to go.
I presented with a number of health issues due to injuries and trauma, some of which date back to many years ago. The result was that I was in constant and significant pain when I began treatment at your facility. After completing my sessions with Justin McKinney as my therapist, I have many days when I am almost pain free in the areas treated. I also have greatly increased my range of motion and flexibility in the affected areas. This is a direct result of my treatment there and also by continuing with the exercises he assigned me on a regular basis, morning and night.
My own experience, which others probably have experienced too, is that there is a certain point in our lives when medical providers appear to “write us off” as they may feel our age works against us for any kind of meaningful recovery. This truly was not the case at your facility! I felt I was genuinely treated as an individual; this in turn helped keep me motivated to do my part with keeping appointments and doing all the assigned exercises. I left with a much more positive attitude towards tackling whatever health challenges I may face in the future.
Thank you again and my thanks to Justin.
For Marti:
I can't begin to thank Marti enough for all she has done to help me with my journey to re-gain my strength and balance.
I had 2 years of therapy at various locations in Phoenix with little results. All of my previous "therapy" seemed to just be the minimum required for Medicare with nothing personalized.
I'm so thankful I found Marti. She truly cared and worked diligently to customize a treatment plan to help me. She did research specifically about my injury to ensure she gave me the best possible care. She was patient with me and helped me have a better understanding of my injury and how it affects me.
I am forever grateful! Thank you from the bottom of my heart!!!!
At my first meeting with Marti, I was unsure I would be able to return to a life of recreational activity and regular exercise.
A lower back injury had kept my activities restricted for many months. With that hesitation in mind, Marti showed great skill in being able to both challenge and encourage me (a tricky balancing act) in a way that yielded highly satisfactory results.
I am doing more again than I thought would be possible. Her knowledge of the aging body's need for specialized PT methods was a precious gift. I now have a confidence in how to proceed in the future to continue to get stronger and stay active. Being able to work with Marti has made a tremendous difference in my life.
Thank you Marti!
After a mild TIA in 2014, I was suffering from vertigo and balance problems in late Fall. Marti’s hands-on therapies, coupled with a great protocol for home exercise, had me back to normal in January.
Marti is a great therapist and I highly recommend her to anyone needing physical therapy.
If you are in need of physical therapy be sure to contact Backways' first. I wish I had done that after I had hip replacement surgery in 2006 that left me with a dreadfully weak leg. Instead, I worked with several other PT outfits in the Prescott area before finally arriving at Backways' in 2014.
None of these other PTs that I worked with came close to strengthening my leg to the point that it would bear my weight. Consequently I suffered several injurious falls during the last 8 years.
Now, due entirely to the expert, dedicated, insightful and innovative efforts of Marti Henshaw PT (at Backways') I now have 2 good legs and can walk with a confidence that I haven't known in years. I have even started playing table tennis again - moving from side to side and backwards and forwards with no loss of balance nor any sign of stumbling or wavering.
I am totally delighted with this turn of events!
Thank you Marti and thank you Backways'!
I am writing this letter to tell you about one of your Physical Therapists, Martha Henshaw.
Marti set up a program that prepared me for spinal fusion surgery. This program was a major contribution for my rapid recovery. She worked on many exercises and I am currently using all of them.
The Physical Therapist I had after surgery while I was home-bound told me I was way ahead of the curve and did not need him.
I would recommend this plan and Marti to anyone anticipating any knee, shoulder, hip or spinal surgery.
Ruth, Ann, and Peter:
I had a fall and injured my (R) hip, shoulder, and knee, that restricted my motion, and movement. The pain even affected my sleep. I had always been an active person, doing Yoga, walking and hiking, as well as downhill snow skiing. After my injury, my active sporting life came to a stop, and after having constant pain to mostly my hip and groin area, and under the recommendation of my medical doctor in Prescott, I was referred to Backway’s Physical Therapy, PLLC.
I started working with Ann Kehm, PT, BCSI, who initially helped to relieve my pain, and help with my flexibility to my shoulder and knee. I also did several sessions with Peter, Coppola, PT, and later had various sessions with Ruth Backway, PT, BCSI, that helped with my pain on my hip and groin area. I am now happily doing my Yoga practice on a daily basis, and walking over three miles just about every day, pain free.
Thank you Ruth, Ann, and Peter for the help. I often think of you as I walk on the beach, and do my daily practice. I send you all my best for all the wonderful work you all did on my body.
Ruth & Peter:
After a serious automobile accident and a year of trying to avoid surgery, I underwent spinal fusion with a brilliant surgeon in Flagstaff, AZ. After several months of healing, I was instructed by my doctor to seek out a local Physical Therapist in Prescott, where I lived.
By some act of grace, I found Ruth Backway and Peter Coppola at Backway’s Physical Therapy on South McCormick St. in downtown Prescott.
I would encourage anyone needing specialized Physical Therapy to seek out these two Physical Therapists. With equal doses of compassion and hard work, they got me not only back on my feet, but 100% back to normal – something I could never have expected after such a serious operation. I thank them, and highly recommend them.
Ruth:
I just wanted to say thank you. Because of your teachings, I was able to solve my pain dilemma. My leg was waking me up at night in pain every night.
Then a week and a half ago, it hit me. It was my back- my bulging disk, because my pre-op PT had me lying flat on my back doing exercises for most of an hour. And, because of you, I knew how to treat it.
I started laying on my stomach, arching my low back every day, and I took my WonderRoll for PT for the last two sessions and used it when I was flat on the table. And guess what? It immediately calmed my leg pain down. I also slept with that roll at night for the first week or so.
It is doing much, much better, and I have you to thank for educating me. I thought you'd appreciate hearing how you change lives. :)
You have made such a difference in my life and I will always be grateful to you. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with me and giving me so many valuable tools to work with. I’m doing really well (three months after finishing PT); still living life without Advil!
In 1990, I had sustained a repetitive strain injury to my hands. I had been employed as a technical writer and found myself unable to type at a computer or use my hands for more than a few minutes to perform the activities of daily living. I could do little cooking or cleaning. I could not grip the steering wheel as I drove my car. I estimate that I had less than ten percent use of my hands during my seven long years of disability.
After a string of failed therapies, both traditional and alternative, I found Hellerwork Structural Integration with S. B., and my symptoms improved dramatically. I was able to use my hands without pain for longer and longer periods of time. After 13 sessions with her, I felt that I was well on my way to recovery.
Soon afterwards, my husband and I moved to Flagstaff, Arizona to begin anew.
Following the very hand-intensive and overall physical strain of moving, my old symptoms came back. I was terrified that I would return to my previous state of disability. I sought help from two other practitioners before finding Ruth Backway.
After my first session with Ruth, it was clear that she was quite skilled at her work, and has much to offer patients, especially those who do not get better as expected.
Through her hands-on work, Ruth helped to return my entire body to a more balanced, integrated structure. Through her advice and instruction, I have learned to correct bad postural habits that had contributed to my distress. Though I still must take steps to maintain my dramatic recovery, I have once again achieved lasting comfort in my body.
After returning to school to earn my master’s degree, I am now employed as a full-time technical editor at (name removed for privacy). If it weren’t for Ruth’s expertise and skill I would not be where I am today.
Ruth has exceptional skill and has helped me regain my life and my ability to be gainfully employed. Ruth’s work is phenomenal, and I wish there were more people with her skill and training.
I am a 75 year-old woman who has suffered from severe pain and dysfunction of my left shoulder for the past 20 years. I was told by a number of physicians that my shoulder was frozen. Through the years I have been treated with chiropractic, naturopathy, massage therapy, Feldenkrais Method and other therapies the names of which I do not recall. My left arm remained largely useless, because even using the range of motion that remained caused me so much pain that I gradually gave up using it.
Eventually, treatment with Ruth Backway was prescribed. I was told that if anyone could fix my shoulder she could. I began treatment, but she soon recognized that I needed surgery. The surgery was successful, and I resumed Physical Therapy with Ruth as soon as I was allowed.
I now have almost normal range of motion and my arm is getting stronger every week. I am pain free most of the time, so I no longer am dependent upon prescription pain medication to get through the days and nights.
While under treatment, my posture has been modified and my persistent body aches and pains have diminished. I am now learning to help myself through exercises, and I am learning to walk properly, something I seemed to have failed to learn in my seventy-five years on the planet.
For me, Physical Therapy at Backway’s PT has been effective in treating many complaints where other therapies have failed.
Tayler:
Tayler is amazing and on a scale of 1-10, I give her a 20+
I was a bit skeptical to go to yet another Physical Therapist after less than positive results from previous PT experiences. However, two of my friends highly recommended Backway's and explained their approach was hands-on and well worth trying.
I am so glad I did. Tayler was exactly the right person for my neck condition (compressed nerve against my spinal cord with moderate to severe pain). Thanks to her I will avoid neck surgery and am back doing activities I love such as yoga, hiking, and walking. Her holistic approach and manual therapy techniques led Tayler to also help my hip (bursitis) and numbness in my left index finger.
Tayler is very knowledgeable, kind, intuitive, and loves life. Her positive attitude is infectious! What struck me initially and throughout my treatment is her ability to actively (really) listen and then respond with useful manual therapy, suggestions, and exercises which I continue to do. I highly recommend Tayler and Backway's.
Tayler is a sincerely compassionate, determined, and insightful Physical Therapist. Her keen ability to observe, assess, and develop a personalized treatment plan makes her an effective therapist.
Early on in treatment, I began feeling better. I remember after one of the sessions, I left feeling such strength and connection... the fatigue of pain lifted.
In addition to her skilled hands-on treatment, I appreciate how well she listens and dissolves the mystery behind my symptoms. I found her approach to be both comforting and motivating.
One of the most valuable lessons I learned from Tayler, was how to use awareness and simple exercises to improve alignment, creating the space needed for my body to heal.
Thankfully, I now have better range of motion, less pain and more confidence.
I respect and trust her as a professional therapist and admire her inquisitive nature and dedication.
Thank you Tayler for being a positive influence in my life!
